Jan. 25, 2011

this week we are going to have mike and audrey baptized on saturday and it will be pretty cool becuase i am going to be baptizing mike myself!!! haha but that will be pretty cool and i am grateful for the oppourtunity! but they are doing really well other than audrey is kind of having some health problems but that isn't going to stop them from entering the waters of baptism! but it will be pretty awesome for them to get baptized!

also we have been teaching some more kids this week. we picked up these 2 kids last week who happened to live in our area and their names are briana and joey and they are 12 and 10 years old and we committed them to be baptized on february 19th. but we just need them to come to church becuase their parents are less active and they really arne't pushing them to get baptized but the briana and joey really feel like they need to get baptized.

this sunday was stake conference at the ogden tabernacle and the O'Connor's showed up for stake conference and it was pretty awesome seeing them there. and they are just an awesome family, they even feed us dinner last week which was really cool! she made like the best turkey i have ever had (no offense mom) and she also made some ballin home made mac and cheese! but it was really cool to have dinner with them and then to have a lesson with them right after!

also we have been teaching this one kid named jordan and it has been kind of rough teaching him. he is kind of a really quiet kid and we have asked him to be baptized several times but he keeps on refusing to be baptized because he said that he wants to know more about the church before he gets baptized. so that has been kind of frustrating teaching him, but we have just been playing basketball with him at the church when we and him have time and that has kind of been opening him up. but last night Elder Deming and I decided just to read Alma chapter 32, where it talks about faith and we kind of explained the chapter to him as we read it. and the whole time i felt really prompted to ask him to be baptized and then Elder Deming asked him to be baptized and he said....NO....again. but this last transfer we have been working on asking good questions and resolving concerns with our investigators and that is something i honestly sturggle with, beucase i can teach the lesson just fine but i really have a hard time digging for those concerns, so then when he said no i asked him why he said no. and of course he said that he felt like he wanted to know more about the church. and then the conversation started going on and he started talking about how he has changed alot since he has moved in with this new foster family. and then i asked him how his life has changed and he said that he just felt like he was staying out of trouble since he had been going to church. and then he said that the reason why he didn't feel like he could get baptized is becuase he felt like he has to change more and that he feels kind of inadequate for baptism and that he doens't feel like he can be a changed person once he is baptized. and there was his concern!!!! it was awesome hearing that from him and so we talked to him a little about repentance. and we gave him a reading assingment of Enos to read. so hopefully we can get him baptized!

but anyways that is kind of what has happned this week. i'll keep you updated on more things to come. love you all and have a great week!

Jan. 18, 2011

this week mike and audrey got married so that was cool. they got married at the church and were married by the bishop of their ward, and it was a little neat ceremony and it was really fun! but they are so ready for baptism on the 29th!

also our other 4 baptismal dates are the o'connor daughters and also this kid named hayden. and we are super excited for them.

there has been kind of a cool story though. we have been kind of teaching this less-active lady that we met tracting about month and half ago. her name is cindy and we have been reading the book of mormon with her and helping her out such as getting a food order and getting her rides to church. her situation is kind of bad since she is disabled and her son that she is living with is really against the church (but really likes us because his favorite band is coheed and cambria and it so happens that i really like coheed and cambria!), but he  treats her like crap and also he is addicted to pain killers and sells his foodstamps for drug money and starves cindy at home. but anyways we thought that she was less active the whole time that we were teaching her but she finally told us that she had taken her name off the record so we asked her if she would be baptized again and she said yes. so in those cases the person has to talk to the bishop to get back in the chruch so she said that she would talk to the bishop.

also this week we picked up 2 new unbaptized kids. some other missionaries in our zone were teaching these kids at the kids grandparents house down in west point and the elders in west point figured that it would be better for them to be taught by us since we live in their area and for them to go to chruch in their area. so we picked up those investigators and we are excited to get them into the waters of baptism!

but that has kind of been my week so far! hope you have a good one!

Jan. 11, 2011

Things have been going good considering the work. we had to push back a couple of dates though... the reason why is we had 4 people lined up to be baptized on the 22nd and the 23rd is stake conference and usually when you do a convert baptism you have to confirm them the next day during sacrament meeting. but since it is stake conference that day the stake president didnt' want to do it on that day so we just decided that rather than baptizing and then waiting a week to be confirmed we just decided to push the date back on week. also we were going to baptize our 13 year old kid - Haden - on the 15th but he won't get baptized until the 5th of february. the reason why we pushed back his date was becuase he visits his dad who live up in idaho every other weekend so this weekend he was going to be at his dad's house up in idaho. so he wouldn't have even been there for his own baptism. but we finally worked things out and we are going to make sure that he gets baptized on the 5th! also our super solid investigators- mike and audrey are getting married this weekend so that should be super awesome.
The last 2 days have been quite boring though...Elder Deming has come down with a cold so we didn't do work on sunday or monday. so we stayed in the whole day...which means that i had nothing to do other than read the scriptures a ton and also watch a bunch of church movies...i pretty much watched all the church dvd's...lamb of god, finding faith in jeusus christ, the restoration, joseph smith - prophet of the restoraiton, the testaments, legacy, mountain of the lord. but my Elder Deming is pretty good at quoting alot of those movies and because we watch alot of those movies with investigators, i can kind of quote alot of it. but that is what i have been doing the past 2 days.
the other day i had quite an experience with our 92 year old ivestigator Cliff...the other day he cursed us out and kicked us out of his home!! haha. i mean i shouldn't laugh about it... it kind of sucked but that is what happend. so we started off the lesson by watching this video about the story of Wilford Woodruff, about his conversion story and then we started talking to him about the proper priesthood authority from god. and some things led to another and Elder Deming and him started kind of bashing together and during the whole time they were bashing together i really could not feel the spirit. it was kind of sad and then suddenly Cliff started cursing us out and saying all other filth..haha. but anyways he told us to leave so then when were leaving he started saying that he prayed about the book of mormon and the mormon church and he said that god told him that it was the devil's church! and he started going off on other stuff and it kind of got me irritated so then i asked him if he had ever read the book of mormom cover to cover and of course he said no. so then i told him that he can't say anything about the book of mormon becuase he hasn't even read it i and that he hasn't even prayed about it and that he can't say anything until he reads it and prays about it and that when he does i told him to tell me to face that it wasn't true. so that kind of shut him up. so then i shook his hand and then we left.
but other than being kicked out of someone's home we have been doing a great work here in Sunset and we are significantly blessed for our missionary efforts. but anyways love you all and hope that i get some letters from all of you who are reading this blog! haha

Jan. 4, 2011

Our new years was kind of boring. i just went to bed really early since we had no appointments. some guy in our stake wanted us to come to his house and shoot blanks out of his gun on new years but i was already in bed and we didn't want to go out. also we have been fed roast 3 times this week........and elder Deming doesn't really like roast so im always joking before every dinner appointment that we are going to have roast. but also transfers is tomorrow and both Elder Deming and I are staying in sunset together for another transfer. but things are going really well with the work.

Mike and Audrey are going to be interviewed for baptism today. and their baptismal date is on jan 22. but that might be a problem becuase stake conference is on the 23rd and investigators can't really be confirmed on a stake conference. We are just going to have to figure things out. They are going to get married pretty soon. That should be somthing pretty exciting.

Also we taught our littler 13 year old named hayden who had a baptismal date for the 15th. He is doing really well. We had one of those lessons yesterday where we talked about the gospel of jesus christ and how where we would draw earth life on a piece of paper and have somebody hold it and then have heaven drawn on a piece of paper and have somebody stand far away from the person holding the earth life and we told hayden to try to jump all the way from earth life to heaven in one jump. and of course he couldn't do it. so then we explained that you just have first faith in jesus christ, then next repentance, baptism, recieving the gift of the holy ghost, and Endure to the end. so we explained all of those to him and made those stepping stones so that he could jump from each one in the room and slowly make it to heaven. but then after that we started to talk about the word of wisdom to him and hayden has a little brother and sister and when we were talking about the word of wisdom they were like yelling, "MOM and DAD do that!!!" "MOMMY AND DADDY STILL SMOKE!" and i just looked at the parents and they had blank faces. but afterwards the parents told us that they were both excommunicated recently, but they still wanted their son to be baptized. and they both have problems smoking but we are just going to teach them stop smoking workshops and hopefully that will get them on the right track.

last week we met this family named the O'Connor's who at first we though we were just going to be teaching the 14 year old daughter named ashlynn and then the 10 year old daughter name alannis. so we get there and we are teaching the lesson and we didn't now if the Mom was less active or not. the dad told us straight up that he had been less active since he was 13. so we were teaching the lesson and we were explaining the feelings of the spirit and the spirit was definitely strong there and when we explained the first vision the mom was like talking to her girls and saying, " did you feel the spirit? i just did!" and then she told us that she was a non-member and that she really did belive that joseph smith did see god the father and jesus christ and that did restore the gospel of jesus christ in the latter days but she wants to keep her mind open to all religions and just didnt' want to stick to one religion. so we gave her the challenge of baptism and also we committed her daughters to baptism.

but thanks for all your support. hope everything is well with you guys and jack! love ya.
